Bridal Flowers
(A Song)

Edward S. Sorenson

Deck the altar with blue-gum flowers
    Beautiful, pure, and sweet!
And let the children strew honey'd showers
    Of white-gum blooms at my feet.

Pluck sweet white myrtle my hair to spray—
    None sweeter was ever borne;
And apple-blossoms for my bouguet,
    For this is my bridal morn.

Prate not to me of old orange-bowers,
    Or your customs of over sea;
I’ll honour ever my native flowers,
    And be true to my own countree.
