There’s a peaceful little town on a river far away—
Oh, I wish that I were there, Linda Lee!
Where my thoughts for ever dwell when the light is turning gray,
And the flighting of the swans calls to me;
Where the happy sunbeams dance to the laughter of the rills—
Dear Mullumbimby and its scrub-clad hills!
By the quiet, winding roads, with the soft wind in the trees,
Oh, I wander in my dreams, Linda Lee!
And I taste the joys again, hear the bushland symphonies,
That linger ever in my memory,
Where the souls are souls of men, and true comradeship belongs—
Ah, Mullumbimby, with its sweet bird songs.
Still the lotus vales of green where the lazing cattle stray—
Oh, the cows are lowing far, Linda Lee!
Where the breezes steal the scent of the flowers and the hay
For the pleasure of the town, I can see;
Where the lips are sweet to kiss, and the eyes are laughter-lit—
Fair Mullumbimby and its bright girl wit.
For the days in glory born, that in mellow splendor pass.
Oh, my heart is aching aye, Linda Lee!
With the butterflies abroad, and the crickets in the grass,
In the garden where my home used to be;
And my steps will turn the way of my longing by-and-bye—
To Mullumbimby and its rare blue sky.
