Little flame robin, flitting
Gaily about the whole day long.
Ever about and in and out,
Singing your little song.
Over the red-topped grasses
You joy from the peaceful dawn,
Adding a charm to the bush and farm,
Garden and mead and lawn.
Sweetest of all the robins,
Swinging with pride and grace,
In splendour drest with your scarlet breast,
White on your peerless face.
Dainty and neat and cheery.
Pet of the laughing child,
Always you please at your play and ease,
Wee beauty of home and wild.
Favoring the hills in summer,
Lowlands in wintry days,
You flash the flame of your robe and name
Ever in pleasant ways.
A gem of the bushland’s glory.
In every heart that’s true,
Your musical trill must a love instil,
Little flame robin, for you.
