In a garden that bears
A rich riot of flowers,
Amid, opaline bowers,
The Chickoowee fares
In the sunshiny hours.
From the honey-sweet blooms
Of the sycamore tree,
It is calling to me
In a treble that booms,
Chickoowee! Chickoowee!
Where the sprays toss and float,
Long it lingers, nor fears,
And so sprightly appears
In its greyish-brown coat,
And white plumes on its ears.
And beyond the green wall,
A fair woodland I see,
That it brings back to me
With its loud, ringing call,
Chickoowee! Chickoowee!
