The Blue Wren

Edward S. Sorenson

O happy is the gay Blue Wren,
    And proud is his resplendent coat,
E’er flitting with his wee brown hen
    In sunny glade and shady glen,
A lively warble now and then
    Outpouring from his throbbing throat.
O happy is the gay Blue Wren,
    And proud in his resplendent coat.

On jewel wings he fends and plays,
    A gem amongst the glowing grass;
Bewitching with his perky ways,
    About the cockspurs where he stays
Through busy spring and summer days,
    With his brown mate and infant class.
On jewel wings he fends and plays,
    A gem amongst the glowing grass.
